Watching Alex Otti answering questions on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily of Thursday, January 10, 2019, drew tears of pity from my eyes and a heartfelt sympathy for someone that once traversed, albeit tragically, Nigeria’s financial industry like a colossus and pretended for so long to be an illustrious son of Abia State as he was reduced to nothing but a shadow of his usual bragging self in an attempt to arduously rewrite history and place logic on its head.
Why Abia has been so unlucky to have the uncouth, brigands and street urchins as political opposition elements despite the numerous people of refined character, class and status found in every nook and cranny of the state is still a thing of wonder. What is popular as prayer points with people in other states is for God to give them good leaders, but in Abia where God has since answered that prayer, it seems our prayer point will have to be for God to grant our state reasonable and sensible opposition figures who will not see Abia State as their fiefdom which they must war to conquer.
Viewers were treated to a most hilariously tortuous time all through the period the interview lasted as Otti reeled out lies after lies in desperate but futile efforts to deny the lofty achievements of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu. Instead, he ended up further exposing himself as a double-faced man with multiple ancestries which he deploys depending on the occasion.
That Alex Otti still thinks he won the 2015 governorship election in Abia State and was robbed “at gun point” four years after he was roundly defeated by Dr Okezie Ikpeazu at the polls, the tribunal, the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court, is proof the man is in deep hallucination. He went to court, which was very well within his rights to do, but could not provide any evidence or even mention “gun” throughout the proceedings but now come out to make outlandish and infantile claims. Let Otti be ready. He made much more noise in 2015 than he is making now, yet, was totally defeated. His defeat this time round will be so wide that he would be retired politically for good to his Isiala Ngwa land , or is it now Arochukwu?
A man of his age who does not know, or is confused about his place of origin has shown he lacks the needed mental capacity to lead Abians. It is insulting to the people of Arochukwu for Alex Otti to have claimed to come from Isiala Ngwa all this while just for his selfish political purposes only for him to turn around now and expect the people to welcome him back with warm embrace simply because the people of Isiala Ngwa have rejected him and his claims of originating from there.
Now, that Alex Otti is seeking refuge in Arochukwu, will the people of Arochukwu not treat him rightly like the prodigal son that he is by keeping him at arm’s length because such a man who could deny his birth place just for politics can do anything to promote his own cause even if it means selling his brethren in the area.
The man was not even sure which of his ancestors moved from Arochukwu to Isiala Ngwa as he claimed on the programme. Hear him: “I think it was my great grandfather that moved to Isiala Ngwa where I was born, where my father was born and was buried. So I will say that I’m from the two parts of Abia State”. How can one man be from two parts of the same State by origin unless Alex Otti is trying to tell us that he has two fathers, a situation that will call into question his maternal fidelity.
In our clime, that a man moved his family from Umuahia to Lagos where they gave birth to their children does not mean the children would claim Lagos as their origin. They would only remain Abians resident in Lagos, or claim Lagos by indigenization and not by origin. Alex Otti should check himself. And to say that zoning in Abia State was a political arrangement by the PDP when the Abia Charter of Equity predates PDP shows that Otti has no single sense of history of the people he so desperately wants to force himself on as governor.
It is only a dishonest person like Otti that would claim that the well applauded and globally commended Enyimba Economic City of the Okezie Ikpeazu administration “is a political game as far as I’m concerned”. The most audacious project East of the Niger which the federal government has already committed N10bn in the 2019 budget to, whose $600,000 license fee to operate as a Free Trade Zone has already been paid by the private investors, whose design cost $1.2m and paid for in full by the private investors with all the necessary paper works and legal frameworks completed and signed by President Muhammadu Buhari himself is seen as a political gimmick by an Abian especially one who wants to lead them because we are now into election season? It is most unfortunate!
