It is very crucial in this 21st century and no government that worth its name will pay lip service to the Education sector. Education as a processes of acquiring knowledge, cognitive skills, problem-solving skills has remained one of the major Ikpeazu's to developing Abia State.
Put differently, since the inception of the Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu's administration, the educational system of Abia has fared very well. This is not surprising as the present Abia helmsman is himself a university don, who ideally attaches so much importance to Education.
The Governor Ikpeazu's administration at the inception invented the Education for Employment (E4E) scheme, a programme meant to train and retrain Abians in different skills. At the moment, no fewer than 472 individuals has graduated from the scheme. Correlatively, this scheme, a brainchild of Governor Ikpeazu is designed to take away the youths of Abia out of the streets as the employers sort for qualities are imparted on them through this scheme. Also, the technical know-how is being transferred.
In an arrangement to meet the nutritional requirements of our pupils, and resultantly improve learning and assimilation process, the State Government precisely in 2015, through the office of the Vice President of the federation, boldly launched school feeding programme. Today, Abia is the only State in the entire country to be providing meals from primary one to six pupils.
Under the able pilot-ship of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia State in her determination to give Abians quantitative and qualitative education that meets the contemporary needs of our students and pupils partnered with a notable Australian based education solution providers (Precious Kids Education Employment) to retrain our teachers in other to improve their performance and delivery. This has been highly successful as a good number of Abia teachers were retrained across the three senatorial districts of the State to meet the education standard as requires across the globe.
The State Government in her pro-masses attire acknowledged the present biting economic realities of the nation and slashed the tuition fees of all state tertiary institutions thus, saving our undergraduates from stopping their education halfway.
The State Government partnership with the private sector saw to the provision of made in Aba school sandals to more than 2000 Abia school children; a win win situation for our indigenous producers and the State's Education system.
Motivation increases performance; the State Government donated cars to best performing teachers across the three senatorial districts, in addition to building of of teacher's quarters.
The Governor Ikpeazu's administration has embarked on the construction of ultramodern schools in each of the three senatorial zones, with over 359 new school classroom blocks currently under construction statewide presently, 100 has been completed and awaiting commissioning. There is also massive renovation of dilapidated school structures across the state, with boreholes sank in many schools.
Monitoring performance is very crucial and needful in our education sector , to this end, new education inspection scheme was innovated by the Ikpeazu's administration and provided with logistics to aid their operations.
The State's scholarship board has been reconstituted and reenergized, to award scholarship to best performed final year secondary school students in Abia.The glowing results in WASCE exams by Abia students are tributes to the State's investments and reforms in the education sector. Abia has been leading in WAEC and other external exams for three years running now, not by mere coincidence
Governor Ikpeazu's awards are certainly deserved and earned by sterling performance in statecraft.
