The state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has commended the executive and members of Elite Club of Ngwaland for their doggedness and relentless efforts at supporting and assisting ngwa students financially especially the less privileged ones in their academic pursuit to enable them to achieve their dreams and aspirations in life as well as become responsible citizens of the state.
Dr. Ikpeazu who made the commendation at the All Ngwa Cultural Festival/Education Grant held at Okpuala Ngwa in Isialangwa North Local Government Area Headquarters disclosed that his administration which has placed great emphasis on education will continue to partner relevant social-cultural associations in providing the educational needs of Abia Students.
The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. A.C.B Agbazuere reiterated that the present administration has performed creditably in the educational sector as well as remained committed to enhancing and uplifting the standard of education in the state.
The state Executive further disclosed that the state government as part of its efforts at assisting abia students to have equal access to quality education has reinvigorated the Abia State Scholarship Board with plans to send some students to Australia to further their studies.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman on the occasion and Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University future, Prof. Uche Ikonne while commending the Elites Club of Ngwaland for embarking on human capacity building described culture as the identity of any society also called on all ngwa social-cultural associations in and outside the state to come together to synergize and support Governor Ikpeazu's efforts at bettering lots of students and Abians in general.
Earlier in his welcome address, the President of Elite Club Of Ngwaland, Mr. Alex Alozie said the maiden edition of the All Ngwa Cultural festival is an opportunity to support financially over 60 students in tertiary institutions adding that the event will help in promoting the ngwa heritage as well as foster unity amongst them.
In their separate speeches, some of the beneficiaries including Mr. Darlington Chika, Tochi Ukachukwu, Nwakanma Udokanma, Serah Nwokeukwu among others appreciated the members of Elite Club Of Ngwaland for their philanthropic gestures and promised to make judicious use of the grants.
Correspondent Ugochukwu Ahuchogu reports that the event which attracted the presence of the notable ngwa sons and daughters including the member representing Isialangwa North and South Federal Constituency, Chief Darlington Nwokocha, the president of Ngwa Patriots and commissioner in ASOPADEC, Chief Uzoma Ihuka among others featured the handover of cheques to the beneficiaries by the Governor's representative.
