The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) today played host to the Leadership of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Abia State chapter who were at the Commission on a courtesy call to inquire on the commission’s preparedness ahead of the December 2020 scheduled Local Government Election in the State.
The Chairman, Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) Prof. Mkpa Agụ Mkpa appreciated the Leadership and members of the NOA and further assured them of the Commission’s readiness to work in partnership with the NOA in order to guarantee a credible election.
Prof. Mkpa Agụ Mkpa Used the opportunity to assure NOA and all Political Parties that will participate in the forthcoming election of the equal playing ground. He reiterated the Commission’s resolve for a free, fair, and credible election.
Prof. Mkpa urged the NOA leadership to help in voters education and sensitization to enhance Citizens participation in the electoral process
In her speech, the Director of National Orientation Agency Abia State Lady Ngozi Okechukwu informed the Chairman of ABSIEC that the leadership of the Agency was on an advocacy visit to enhance cooperation between ABSIEC and the NOA ahead of the December 2020 Local Government Election in the State. According to the Director, the visit was necessary to ensure that the forthcoming election adhere strictly to the safety protocols of NCDC in order to mitigate the spread of COVID19 during the election.
The NOA sought for the cooperation of ABSIEC leadership before, during, and after the election in order to ensure nonviolent election and also guarantee free, fair, and credible elections.
The Director of NOA was accompanied by senior members of her agency.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of the Almanac to ABSIEC Chairman by Lady Okechukwu containing the list of all Political Parties registered in Nigeria and other sensitization materials to promote citizens' political/electoral participation and also materials outlining COVID19 protocol during the election.
