I Don’t Need Votes From Efik People To Become Governor,Says Owan-Enoh

Senator John Owan-Enoh has declared that with or without votes from the Efik speaking people of Cross River State, he will become the state Governor in 2019.

Owan-Enoh who is presently representing the Cross River Central in the senate, is said to have made the shocking statement at a meeting with his campaign team in Abuja.

He was reportedly responding to a view expressed by one of his promoters, on how he thinks that an Owan-Enoh candidature would be a hard sell to the people of Cross River South.

The Southern Cross River  is expected to reoccupy the governor’s office which was zoned to the north by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP by 2023.

The Senator was said to have dismissed the fears, declaring that he, an Ejagham man, will become governor whether the Efiks like it or not.

“I am an Ejagham man. I don’t need the vote of Efik people who are loud mouthed, few in population with mediocre but overhyped culture. They lack the numbers to determine who becomes governor of Cross River State. Even in Calabar I will win because the whole of Calabar Municipality is Ejagham. They will vote for me as one of their own.

" So, any Efik person who does not want to vote for me,Owan can keep his or her vote. I will win without them”, Owan-Enoh was reported to have said.

It would be recalled that Donald Duke an Efik Son was Governor of Cross River bewteen 1999-2007,while Senator Liyel Imoke, who is from the Central like Owan-Enoh, did 8 years in office between 2007-2015 as governor before handing over to the incumbent, Senator Ben Ayade, a northerner.

Expectedly, the south is hoping to have one of its own occupying the governor’s office in 2023 with the conclusion of eight years from Northern Cross River.

Findings revealed that because of the expectation, the South detests an Owan-Enoh candidacy as any support for him will mean keeping the south away from the governor’s office for another 8 years instead of four, which the present arrangement guarantees
