Cross River North: The dice is cast as Udam Tom picks nomination forms

Front runner for the Cross River North Senatorial seat ticket under the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Honourable Thomas Udam has collected his nomination forms in a move that is seen by political watchers as raising the stake for the race.

The young and astute politician who hails from the Ogoja Local Government area of the state is the incumbent Honourable Commissioner for Power in the state and he is seen by the people of Ogoja axis as their eye in the Ayade government. The Ogoja axis of the senatorial district has been agitating for a senator of Ogoja origin. Their agitation is premised on the fact that the Local Government being the mother of all other local governments in the district has never produced a senator for the zone.

Majority of voters in the area are fixated on Udam for the reason that he has always connected with his people. They also site his notable contributions to the success of the Ayade administration as another reason for backing him. A community leader who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Ogoja will give 99 per cent vote to governor Ayade and the PDP should they give us the desire of our heart by giving the ticket to Udam”

With this development, the race is now seen by many as between the incumbent senator and the people of Ogoja axis who political observers agree have been sidelined in the scheme of things.
