Our attention has been drawn to the publication of an official letter written by Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, to his counterpart in Kano, Alhaji Abdullahi Umah Ganduje, and the interest it generated within Nigeria social media platforms.
We wish to state that following the highly publicized and exemplary collaboration between the Governor of Abia State and his colleagues in Kano and other northern states that ensured that the unfortunate crisis of September 2017 did not escalate and lead to further loss of lives, the appreciative Igbo community in Kano approached HRM Eze Eberechi Dick, the Chairman of South East Traditional Rulers Council, to request that he honors Governor Ganduje with a Chieftaincy title in recognition of the role he played in protecting Abians and Ndigbo residents of Kano State.
With full stability restored, a date was chosen for the honor to be bestowed on the Governor in Abia State. As protocol demands, Governor Ganduje will be the guest of the Governor of Abia State and an official invitation was issued in response to the request by the traditional ruler and the Igbo community in Kano.
Thank you.
