For the purposes of this write-up, analogy will be drawn from the 1974 Mondial in West Germany.
One of Africa's Nationalists who strongly believed in, not just political independence of the peoples of Africa but real economic liberation from alien forces was Patrice Lumumba of Congo.
He led his people all through the struggle for independence from Belgium.
But because of his commitment to patriotism and nationalism, the Belgian colonial government, in conspiracy with the United States of America, had to plot his assassination, using his local rivals.
Congo, whether it is called Zaire as Mobutu Sese Seko would want it or Democratic Republic of Congo(DR Congo) as it is presently called, is very rich in mineral resources.
It may not have been forgotten that it was from Congo that America got the uranium it used in manufacturing the Atomic Bomb that was used to devastate the two Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
Mobutu Sese Seko became the head of Congo Republic, which he later changed to Zaire.
He was despotic and dictatorial. He was naturally not liked by the Congolese.
His pre-occupation in government was massive acquisition of wealth for himself and his family. He was exceedingly brutal.
He knew he was not the darling of his people. He, therefore, sought ways of endearing himself to the Congolese.
One of the things he thought could stimulate his acceptability among his people was to prepare the Congolese National Team, the Leopards of Zaire, effectively for the 1974 World Cup in West Germany.
To guarantee that, he got the team a foreign Coach, bought them new jerseys and provided other motivations he considered necessary.
In the said Mondial, history has it that Africa, not only Zaire, will never forget the humiliation it suffered in the match between Zaire and Yugoslavia.

Governor Ikpeazu did only one thing for the opposition to become empty barrels that now make the most uncordinated irksome noise.
He is simply using quantifiable and verifiable developmental projects in the various sectors of the Abia economy to say, hei, look here opposition, shut up!
It is merely half time and the opposition is down by 0-6 yet the Ikpeazu team is vibrating with a lot of energy.
This match is surely going to end in 9-0 for the Ikpeazu Don't Dirty Team.
