By Sir Don Ubani; KSC, JP
For whatever we do, there is a reward that awaits us. Many people appear to be oblivious of this time-honoured reality.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has proved that humility, sincerity of purpose, transparency and quantifiable accomplishments in public service are what the electorate need from their elected leader in order to have their confidence reposed in him.
Apart from his focus on infrastructural development of Abia State, not excluding other sectors of the State's economy, the PDP government of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has shown quantifiable concern for the youths of the State.
Of all his appointees, the youths in the State constitute, at least, sixty-five percent. During the December 2016 local government council elections in the State, his administration gave encouragement to Abia youths to feel free to contest the elections.
In the said elections, Abia youths occupied about seventy percent of both Council Chairmen and Ward Councillors.
Being always youth-friendly, Governor Ikpeazu, determined to continuously add value to the aspirations of Abia youths, sponsored thirty Abia youths to the Peoples Republic of China to take time to acquire special skill in shoe manufacturing. His Government is working round the clock to raise fund to assist the youths that successfully had their training in China to establish a factory for automated shoe manufacturing.
The quality of education given to our youths goes a long distance in shaping their future. This informed the decision of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to have brought some Special Educators from Australia to come and impact on our school children last year.
As a Governor that is conscious of the implications of unemployment on our youths, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu recently authorized the the Chairman of the State's Unified Local Government Service Commission, Dr Okezie Ugbaja, to put every administrative machinery in motion to offer thousands of Abia youths employment. The process is on-going.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has also introduced Poultry Clusters in the three senatorial districts of the State. This is with a view to creating opportunities for Abia youths to go seamlessly into agriculture so as to become economically independent.
These manifestations by the Governor have, without any extrinsic lure, prompted the youths of the State to come together and pronounce, in the most unambiguous manner, their support for the Governor and to demand for his continuity in office as Governor beyond 2019.
Putting it mildly, the youths of Abia State, cordinated by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development; Comrade Iyk Anyatonwu, converged in their thousands today at Umuahia Township Stadium and unequivocally adopted Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as their Sole Candidate for 2019 Governorship election.
The Governor, naturally, felt elated and fulfilled that the youths of the State could, out of their own volition, come up with this bold position. He expressed his gratitude for this uncommon gesture and assured that what they have done was a modest way of challenging him to further raise the bar of governance.
Many dignitaries in the State graced the occasion. Notable among them were the Deputy Governor; Rt Hon(Sir) Ude Oko Chukwu, the Senator representing the people of Abia-North; Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly; Rt Hon Cosmos Ndukwe, Ph.d, the Member representing Isialangwa-North & South Federal Constituency; Hon Darlington Nwokocha, the Member representing Aba-South State Constituency; Hon Ebere Clinton, the Principal Secretary to the Governor; Sir Emma Nwabuko, the first Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission; Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, a former Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly; Rt Hon Asiforo Okere, Chairman of Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia; Chief Emeka Inyama, the State Publicity Secretary of PDP in the State; Sir Don Ubani who said the opening prayer and very many others.
The occasion was chaired by the youth-friendly Majority Leader of Abia State House of Assembly; Engr Hon Chinedum Orji, Ikuku Abia, who was also honoured with a Gold-Medal Award for being exceptionally favourably disposed towards youth empowerment and development in the State.
Meanwhile, the State Publicity Secretary of PDP in the State; Sir Don Ubani, has called on the good people of the state not to give any attention to a former governor of the State; Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, whom he rightly described as suffering from incurable diarrhea of the mouth as a result of brainlessness and irrationality.
Sir Don Ubani was reacting to an irresponsible and completely unreasonable statement credited to the former governor, whose eight years of governorship ruined Abia State and left nothing Abians can proudly point at as legacies, in which he was reported, in his usual porous, crude and uninformed manner, to have threatened that 'any PDP Member that rigs election in 2019 would be lynched'.
Sir Ubani concluded by saying that in civilized climes, the likes of Orji Uzor Kalu, whose background, pedigree and antecedents are best fitted only for the pigs, are never given any attention.
